Red Kente Queen

30cm x 30cm | Acrylic on Canvas

The Story: Regal Resilience

"Red Kente Queen" is a celebration of sovereignty and the intricate beauty of Ghanaian heritage. This piece reimagines the Female African Warrior as a royal figure, draped in the iconic patterns of Kente. In this work, the color red symbolizes passion, political tension, and the blood of the ancestors, while the geometric Kente motifs represent a sophisticated "visual language" of history and law. It is a portrait of a leader who carries her heritage as both a garment and a shield.

Craftsmanship & Materials: What is it made of?

  • The Medium: Hand-painted using professional, high-pigment acrylics. The "Red" in this piece is carefully mixed to achieve a deep, royal resonance that commands attention from across the room.

  • The Surface: A premium 30cm x 30cm stretched canvas, primed to ensure the structural integrity of the paint for years to come.

  • The Process: In my West Yorkshire studio, I approached this canvas as a weaver would approach a loom. I used a precision-layering technique to mimic the "warp and weft" of Kente cloth, building the patterns rhythmically. This process creates a tactile, woven effect on the canvas that invites the viewer to look closer at the intersection of textile history and fine art.

Ways to Enjoy: A Bold Statement

  • The Power of Red: As a 30cm x 30cm piece, its fiery palette makes it a perfect "accent" work. It can transform a neutral wall into a space of energy and cultural pride.

  • Collection Synergy: This piece is a natural companion to "Carnival Queen" and "Adinkra Seas." Displaying them together creates a powerful narrative of the Black Diaspora—from the sacred symbols of the past to the vibrant celebrations of the present.

  • Professional Presence: The finished edges allow for an immediate ready-to-hang experience. It sits beautifully in a home office or creative studio, signaling a space of leadership and cultural depth.
